I started running some QRP when I go camping on a IC-705 with a MAX output of 10 watts. I have this down to where I can take it camping and operate on both SSB and FT8/FT4 digital. I will accosionaly run Winlink but I'm still working on that part. As far as logging I will try to get logs uploaded soon after a camping trip.
I first got licensed back in 1994 as a Technician (KC7DXK). At some point kids and cell phones came about and Ham Radio went on the back burner. Recently the interest came back and I upgraded in 2017 to a General license and wanted a special call. W7AMC came about and was first letter of my kids name. Recently upgraded to Extra in 2019 and now have been looking for a Extra call and finally got AD7J
I have been working on the shack and other equipment but have settled on ICOM.
My Rigs, for HF the ICOM IC-7610 and a IC-7300 are great rigs, great features. They are paired with a Ameritron AL-80B and AL-572 amplifiers, a MFJ-989D roller inductor tuner and a LDG AT-1000ProII autotuner in the mix. For VHF/UHF it's a IC-2730A in both my vehicles and in the house as a base.
On the roof you’ll find a Diamond X-200A Dual Band antenna along with a MFJ-1835 Cobweb HF antenna (has been upgraded to a MFJ-1835H to support the amp), a MFJ-1848 8-band (6 - 40) Hexbeam (check the very bottom of page) on the roof and a Alpha-Delta DX-CC 10-80m fan dipole with a modified 30m wire. The one tool that makes it all possible is a antenna analyzer (Comet CAA-500 Mark II), can't live without one.
I spend a lot of time on the digital mode FT8 and the new FT4 on 17, 20, 30, 40 and 80 meter bands.
