 Hi I'm Trev, M0BUT

I got interested in Radio when I was a child when I was given and Electronics kit for a Christmas present, one of the tasks was to build a  radio on pegboard and I was completely hooked once I put the earphone in and I could hear someone talking.  That was the start of my great adventure into the great hobby of Amateur Radio.

I Started shortwave listening when I was 10 years old using an old 19 set , this was mounted on a rack, attached to this was a variac, and an aerial tuner. Instead of using the variac I used a mains power supply that an old Radio ham made for me,this was a lot better than running the radio on car batteries and battery charger. The aerial I used was an 80 mtr doublet with home made open wire feeder, which I made from electric fencing wire,  and the spacers for the wire feeder were ice lolly sticks. Although the 19 set drifted substantially it served it's purpose until I could afford something else.

In 1979 I got into CB, I had various radio’s and aerials but my favourite was my Cobra 148 Gtldx  into a Avanti sigma 2 Vertical, or 3 element beam,  I managed to work many many countries on 11mtr ssb and this gave me the much needed impetus and drive to take the next step to go ahead and take the RAE.

1995 I bought 2 receiver's an old  Eddison s680x and Trio 9r59ds, the Eddison was fed with a long wire  and the Trio with a Doublet from my Homebrew ATU. Many hours were spent listening and more importantly learning operating techniques and procedures.

In 1996 I took the Novice Licence exam, passed and got my 2E1EMW call, in 1997 I learned the Morse Code  and took my 12 WP MINUTE Morse test, passed and got my 2e0arm call,  and 1997 I also took the RAE, Passed and got my M0but call, from 1998 to 2008  I was mainly active on 50 Mhz with great success, using ft 920, 2x5 ele homebrew yagis @ 40 ft and 400w from a converted heathkit sb200 I managed to work Vk, Ja, ZS, West Coast USA, & West coast Canada as well as many south American Stations.

2008 saw me take a break from Amateur Radio due to personal and health reasons.

In June 2018 I came back on the air and although band conditions are not great at present i am managing  to work some nice DX.
