I am originally from Lakewood, California. I was first licensed as a novice in 1966 while still in high school. In 1968, I joined the Navy and became a Communications Technician
in the Naval Security Group. I always had a love for CW and that made me a natural choice for being a morse intercept operator. While our mission was primarily intelligence gathering through targeted military communications, we were also trained for search and rescue using high frequency direction finding.
I operated a number of military ham stations including WA4ECY in Pensacola, Florida, KL7AIZ in Adak, Alaska, and DX as a VQ9 in Diego Garcia. When I left the Navy in 1978, I let ham radio go and concentrated on my family and career.
