My contacts are automatically logged in LOTW, QRZ and eQSL. I'll also do direct.

Besides the joy of radio, I enjoy gardening, grandkids and God.

Just installed my KIO Hexbeam! Loving it.

  • IC-7300 running barefoot
  • RSPdx SDR and PAT V 7300 board (from KD2C) Works great and cheaper than a PTRX board
  • KIO 6-band Hexbeam at 30'
  • Homebrew version of a DXCommander Vertical with 80 (inv L) and 40m
  • 30M vertical with helical wrapping on a 16' crappie pole
  • I made a LOGG for lower frequencies but results are under-achieving

I was first licensed as KA9MZG as a technician then general in 1981, then went QRT after moving out of the country to the Far East. Retired now, I'm back online in Austin, TX. Formerly KI5NXF, I upgraded to Extra in October 2021. While I was gone, digital modes arrived and I have had much to learn. I am very much enjoying FT8 and DX'ing, as well as homebrewing my own antennas.

I've always been interested in DX'ing, even as a kid from Wisconsin with an AM radio listening to "far away" WLS AM890 in Chicago. In my 20's, a friend at a Radio Shack gave me a good deal on Realistic 302 shortwave receiver and I was hooked.

73 and hope to see you down the log~ Rob
