Thanks for visiting my page.. You can find me mostly on the low bands. 160,80, 40 and 30 meters. I have been a ham since 1994. I enjoy DX'ing on CW. My Radio is an Icom-7300. I also use the Yaesu FT818ND and use less than 5 watts for the majority of my contacts. My Antenna is a 25 foot Butternut HF9V Vertical with 60 radials. It works 80,40,30, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10 and 6 meters..
I also enjoy building and using QRP radios. I still have and use my Norcal 40 from 1994. I worked my first DX to France (F3NB-sk) with that radio and a J38 straight key. I remember being so excited I could not sleep. That radio put out 3 watts. It truly is amazing to me that you can work DX with less than 5 watts with the right conditions.
I recently built the QRP Labs Mini 40M CW radio.
Check it out here: QRP Labs Mini That radio design is absolutely amazing and I have purchased the 30 meter version. I would like also to build one for 15 meters.
Another GREAT QRP Blog is QRP'er.com
I am currently experimenting with Magnetic Transmitting Loops. They are amazing ! They are a great antenna to have if you are living in a restrictive home or condo. I have built 2 loops and want to build a bigger loop for 40 meters.
This is a great Magnetic Loop Calculator... use the bottom 2 sections to design the loop, and the results are at the top diagram.
IF YOU WANT to LEARN CW then Go Here--> Morse Code Ninja ( Also please give a donation to the author- his site is great. He will send you a Morse Code Ninja decal. )
When I am not on the Radio, I like to pursue film photography, and also rebuild vintage film cameras.
I spent my life as an Airline Pilot, and flew Beechcraft 1900C&D, the DC-9-10 and DC-9-30 and the Boeing 717. I am thankful for the many ham friends I have and looking forward to meeting many more.
