KV4VT - Amateur Extra

Chuck Adams became a Novice Class Radio Amateur circa 1970 as WN4ZEG while living in the rolling hills of Lynchburg, Virginia.

He later traveled to the FCC field office in Norfolk, VA to earn his General Class license as WB4ZEG.  He was then WB6ZEG after his family moved from Lynchburg, Virginia to Half Moon Bay, California.

During his college years (1973 to 1978) at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, Chuck acquired his Advanced Class ticket.  As a member of the Tessessee Tech Amateur Radio Society (TTARS), Chuck was recognized by the ARRL for the emergency rescue and message relay work he performed as a radio amateur during and immediately after the tornado hellstorms that hit Cookeville and the Middle Tennessee area on April 3, 1974 (see pictures further below).

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1978, Chuck was awarded his Amateur Extra designation once he finally mastered 20 WPM CW.

Due in part to several career moves to maintain his upward mobility (and primarily to some monumental incompetence on the part of the United States Postal Service), Chuck's Amateur Extra license suddenly and unexpectedly EXPIRED!

After a 28-year haitus from the airwaves, Chuck renewed his expired amateur radio license by taking the Technician, General and Amateur Extra exams (all in one marathon test-taking session) at Georgia Tech on Sunday 23 February 2014.  He was awarded his new license on Friday 28 February 2014.

Chuck is glad to be back amongst the brotherhood of Radio Amatuers once again.

His Amateur Extra License does not expire until Wednesday 28 February 2024.

He has vowed to NEVER AGAIN let his license expire. EVER.

Chuck Adams in his first (Novice Class) radio shack WN4ZEG in Lynchburg, VA circa 1972.  Not a bad start for having only one 80 meter CW crystal frequency, a home-brew CW transmitter and a WWII Navy surplus receiver.

In control at WA4UCE (Tennessee Tech Amateur Radio Society - TTARS) in Cookeville, TN, circa 1973.  That hair though...
