I am 65 years old and have been retired since 2007 after working 20 years for BMW of North America (the German Automobile Co.) regional and national headquarters located in New Jersey. After I retired from BMW I worked part time for Smith&Wesson as a firearms instructor and also had my own consulting co. firearms related business and compliance consulting.
In 2013 I got interested in Ham radio so I purchased a RL Drake 2b receiver and started listening. I did this for three months and I was hooked, I just had to get my license so I spent a month studying and in June of 2013 I got my Technician license followed by my General license in July.
In May of 2914 after studying for two months I passed my Extra exam.
My station consists of a Ten Tec Orion II connected to a 72” end fed wire up at 45 feet. I also have a set of RL Drake B Twins and a Kenwood TS-480. The antenna is tunable from 160 to 10 and currently I am only transmitting at 100 watts, although I have a Command Commander Amp. I just haven’t got around to running a dedicated 220 line into the office. For VHF I have Yaesu FT2900R and for UHF and VHF a Kenwood TW-4100A connected to a homebrew ground plane, in the car I use a Yaesu VX5R HT with a speaker mike and connected to a mag. mount antenna.
I enjoy DX’ing and rag chewing on 40, 20, 17, 15 and 12 meters and can be found most every afternoon listening on 7.185. In the late afternoon and late evening I can be found roaming the bands. I also monitor the Mt Tom repeater 146.940 give me a call almost anytime we will most likely connect.
My wife Barbra and I make our home on quiet street in Wilbraham, MA. and if you are in the area stop by.
My other hobbies are Fly fishing and off-roading .
